Job Descriptions: Mathematics Teacher

The successful candidate will be creative and enthusiastic and be willing to work in a team of six committed and highly motivated teachers responding to the challenges of a unique school. The candidate will have a range of teaching experience covering all age groups in a secondary school, including International A-level. The ability to produce resources which take into account the special needs of second-language learners will be an advantage. Applications from candidates who have used their IT skills in the teaching of mathematics will be particularly welcomed.

The mathematics department measures the progress and attainment of Emirati students against UK and International data at KS3, IGCSE and IA-level. We also liaise closely with the Student Support department to identify students who need extra help in mastering the key skills.

Students are divided into five sets in Years 7, 8 and 9. There is a range of teaching materials and resources. Some resources have been written by department members and follow a pattern of core and extension material. The language used is carefully monitored so that every student can access the curriculum whatever his English language skills.

In Years 10 to 11, the students follow courses designed to meet the assessment objectives of the Ed-excel IGCSE Higher and Foundation tiers. A minority of students do not take IGCSE and will be assessed internally.

Post Key Stage 4, students opt either for our Higher School Diploma programme or a combination of A-levels. In the Higher School Diploma students study mathematics at levels which best match their abilities. These courses are designed internally. Those students opting for IA-level follow the Ed-excel modular course. Our next cohort of students will take C12, C34 and two application modules taken from M1, M2, S1 to complete their IA-level. In addition, all students need a score of 400 for externally assessed College Board SAT Maths.
