To celebrate The Year of Reading in the UAE, Rashid School for Boys enjoyed the start of an exciting selection of Book Week activities from 9 to 13 October.

The week continued with visiting UK authors, Marcus Alexander and Curtis Jobling. We also held a “Guess the Teacher” quiz and “Get Caught Reading” photo competition. A bell rang to signal the start of the last 15 minutes of every day for everybody to drop everything and read. Furthermore, Year 12 students read with Primary students as “Buddy Reading” initiative, which proved to be most educational and enjoyable.

We finished the week on Thursday with an assembly and guest speake, Muna Khadhem, who spoke to students about the benefits of reading. For the grand finale we had teachers from various departments dressed up as their favourite book characters. Some of the these included Pocahontas , Gangsta Granny, James and the Giant Peach, Robin Hood, and Mary Poppins. Even the headmaster Mr Kilsby got involved too and came dressed as a very impressive Big Friendly Giant! The week was a very successful celebration of reading enjoyed by everyone. DSC 0111 small 8
